Tiles, Marble or Wallpaper? What to Use on Every Wall and Floor of Your New Home

Tiles, marble, granite and wallpaper are not really competitors: each one is best at a different job. Using the right material in the right place saves money and gives a better result. Here is how we explain it to new home owners across Karnataka.

Floors: tiles, marble or granite

Floors take daily wear, water and furniture weight, so they need a hard material. Vitrified tiles are popular for their range of designs and easy maintenance. Natural marble gives a premium look in living and dining areas. Granite is common for kitchen counters, staircases and high-traffic areas. Wallpaper is never used on floors.

Bathrooms and kitchen backsplash: tiles

Areas that get splashed with water every day need tiles. Standard wallpaper should not be used inside showers or directly behind a sink.

Living room, bedroom and lobby feature walls: wallpaper or stone

Feature walls are where the choice gets interesting. Real marble or stone cladding is heavy, needs skilled work and is hard to change later. A marble-effect 3D wallpaper or brick and stone wallpaper gives a similar look on a normal plastered wall, goes up in a day and can be changed when your taste changes.

Kids rooms and study rooms: wallpaper

Children's rooms change every few years. Washable wallpaper with a theme they love is easier to update than tiles or stone.

Matching the floor and the walls

Keep a sample of your floor tile or marble and hold it against wallpaper and paint samples in daylight. Warm beige and cream floors pair well with gold, green and earthy wallpapers; grey and white floors suit navy, charcoal, geometric and marble designs.

Not sure what suits your home? Send a photo of the room with the flooring on WhatsApp and we'll suggest matching designs.
