3D, 4D, 5D, 7D, 10D, 12D Wallpaper: The Truth Every Buyer Should Know

Visit wallpaper shops across India and you will hear about 3D, 4D, 5D, 7D, 10D and even 12D wallpaper, each one costing more than the last. Here is the simple truth.
A wallpaper is a flat print
Wallpaper is a sheet printed with ink and fixed flat on your wall. Some materials have an embossed texture you can feel, but the picture itself is two-dimensional. "3D wallpaper" means a design drawn with shadows and perspective so it looks deep.
So what is 5D, 7D or 12D?
Just a label. There is no extra dimension in a print. The same kind of wallpaper is often called 5D or 12D to justify a higher price per square foot.
What really decides quality
- Base material and thickness: how strong and durable the sheet is.
- Surface texture: smooth or embossed.
- Print and ink quality: sharpness and fade resistance.
- Installation: a dry, smooth, primed wall and a skilled fixer.
- Warranty: what the seller will put in writing.
Questions to ask any seller
- What is the material name and thickness?
- How many years of warranty, in writing?
- Is the price per square foot including installation?
- Can I see a sample of this exact material?
How we do it
We don't sell "D" numbers. You choose the material and the warranty (1 year to lifetime), the price per square foot is shown upfront, every wallpaper comes with 3 years maintenance-free, and we print any design from anywhere. See our materials and warranty table.
Where 3D wallpaper fits
Choose by material and warranty, not by D numbers. Every design on our site shows the price per sq ft for each material. Browse 3D wallpapers printed to your wall size, or read the full new house interior checklist.
Frequently asked questions
Is there 5D or 12D wallpaper?
No. Wallpaper is a flat print; 3D describes a design that looks deep. Higher D numbers are marketing labels.
What does 3D wallpaper mean?
A design with shadows and perspective that creates an illusion of depth, sometimes on a textured material.
How should I compare wallpaper prices?
Compare the material, thickness, print quality, warranty and whether installation is included, not the D number.
