Per Roll vs Per Square Foot: How Wallpaper Prices Can Mislead You
Asian3D Team · 2026-09-27 · 1 min read
Wallpaper is often advertised "per roll". It sounds cheap, but the number of rolls you need is where the real cost hides.
How per-roll pricing works
Each roll covers a fixed area. To cover your wall you buy whole rolls, so the total depends on how many rolls the seller says you need.
Where the extra cost comes from
- Pattern matching: designs must line up across strips, which wastes part of each roll.
- Height cuts: leftover pieces from each strip often can't be used elsewhere.
- Leftover rolls: you pay for whole rolls even if half of the last one is unused.
- Late surprises: the real roll count often comes after you've chosen the design.
How per square foot pricing works
Your wall is measured (width × height). That area is multiplied by the price per sq ft of the material and grade you choose. Because we print to your wall size, you pay for your wall, not for rolls.
How to compare fairly
- Ask any seller for the total cost for your wall, including wastage and installation.
- Divide by your wall area to get the true price per sq ft.
- Compare material, print grade and warranty, not "D" labels.
